Chalki

Chalki

A tiny island of Dodecanese, Chalki is a relaxing place for a day trip from Rhodes or for short vacations. In fact, there are daily local ferries to Chalki from the small port of Ancient Kamiros in Rhodes, allowing to go on the island and return in the same day. Chalki is a place to enjoy long walks and secluded beaches. The only town is Nimporio, a picturesque place that surrounds the main port of the island. The beach promenade of Nimporio is lined up with cafeterias and taverns, while a small bus departs for beaches around the island, mostly for Potamos beach. Holidays in Chalki are ideal if you are looking for Greek islands off the beaten track.

The island of Chalki, in Greece, is one of the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea and it belongs to the Dodecanese islands group. The only village of Chalki island is Nimporio, the capital and main port of the island. It is located on the eastern side of Chalki and charms visitors with the traditional architecture, the lovely waterfront and the paved paths. The island used to have another village, Chorio, but it was gradually abandoned in the 19th century and its inhabitants moved to Nimporio. Beaches are clean and beautiful. Most organized beaches of Chalki island are located close to Nimporio and they can be easily accessed on foot or by bus. Generally be prepared for long walks during your Chalki holidays, as walking and hiking are the main things to do there. Some other beaches, away from Nimporio, are totally secluded and unorganized. There visitors can enjoy all the privacy they need. Particularly interesting is also the Medieval Castle, in the centre of the island, but climbing up is quite tricky.

Accommodation is limited in Chalki, as this is an island untouched by mass tourism. The only settlement on the island is Nimporio, where you can find few traditional studios with basic facilities and cozy rooms to stay during your Chalki holidays. These venues have easy access to the port, restaurants and shops.
