Airports in Greece

Greece serves millions of tourists every summer, travelling by plane to Greece. Airports in Greece are located in many areas and islands but the International Airport of Athens receives the majority of visitors who then continue to the Greek islands either by plane again or by ferry. You will find bellow information about the main airports in Greece and the Greek islands, their location on map but also information about all airports of the country.

The 2 main and busiest airports in Greece are in Athens city and Thessaloniki city. The Airport of Athens, El. Venizelos International airport, receives direct flights from the majority of central European airports, while via transfer it receives passengers from around the world. The Airport of Thessaloniki is also very popular, particularly in summer, because it serves as a gateway to all the region of Northern Greece.

Many other airports are scattered in the cities and in the islands. They receive domestic flights and some of them charter flights. The smallest airports in the Greek mainland are loacted in Kalamata, Araxos (Patra), Volos (Nea Anchialos) and Aktion (Preveza-Lefkada) that work only in summer and receive only charter flights from abroad, not domestic flights. The most popular islands have airports that serve both domestic flights from Athens and Thessaloniki and few charter flights in summer. The flight time from Athens to the Greek islands ranges from 40 min to 1 hour the maximum.
