This is a small island of Dodecanese that can be visited for short holidays or as a day trip from Kos. In fact, there are daily boat tours from Kos Town and Kardamena to Nisyros, allowing to go and return in the same day. Nisyros in Greece is famous for its still active volcano in the centre of the island. Many volcanologists and geologists pay visit every year to this volcano, that is actually the youngest in Greece. Most activities on the island are concentrated in Mandraki, a picturesque place with many studios and restaurants.

The island of Nisyros is one of the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea and it belongs to the Dodecanese islands group. The most important sightseeing in Nisyros island is certainly the volcano, located in the center of the island. This is the youngest volcano in Greece, only 160,000 years old, and remains still active. In fact, Santorini, Nisyros, Milos and Methana are the four active volcanoes of Greece. Mandraki and Nikia are most picturesque villages on the island, with traditional architecture and relaxing atmosphere. Nikia offers great view to the volcano, while Mandraki is the centre of activities on the island. Sightseeing and hiking are the main things to do on the island. Above Mandraki, there is a Medieval Fortress and the Monastery of Panagia Spiliani. The beaches are peaceful and clean. Only few of the beaches are organized, while the majority is secluded and ideal for privacy during your Nisyros holidays.

Most hotels in Nisyros island are found in Mandraki, the main port and capital of the island. Family hotels and self-catering apartments are scattered all around the town and at the port promenade and they make ideal places to stay for your holidays in Nisyros. Other beach apartments are located in the seaside village of Paloi and in various beaches around Nisyros. Accommodations are small and have simple facilities.
